Are you new to machine learning and unsure of where to start? Or do you have a background knowledge already and want to learn more about partnering with our resources and support?
Our goal is to improve our understanding of how AI by exploring practical uses of artificial intelligence for the benefit of mankind. We do not support the development of any work that leads to detrimental or malicious applications
The mission of the MLab is to support the mission of Florida State University, with an emphasis on research. Joining a MLab team, or developing a team to work on a project in the MLab starts with a pitch. We want to understand your goals, strengths, and resources so please be ready to pitch the goals that you hope to achieve with MLab resources. To use the MLab machines, please be ready to demonstrate some of your own technical work. All applicants are welcome.
Who belongs to the MLab? Is the MLab right for my major studies?
All academic programs are welcome to apply, including UROP students, connections with current members, curious individuals, and referrals. We started with computer vision projects and making synthetic images, and since have branched into music, art and LLMs.
MLab research results from teamwork. Different MLab teams have published in international IEEE computer vision conferences, presented in research showcases, and local technology conferences. The MLab, then, is a place to work on a team, contribute, practice, learn basic research, and explore.
Lab work is project-based so that means we don’t always succeed — most of the time we don’t — so come prepared to fail. That’s just part of trying new things. The lab uses a Discord server for peer support, where you will find other programmers, entrepreneurs, graphic designers, 3D artists — plenty of potential team-mates.

We have a track record of getting things done, but we are also a social group. We value collaboration, respect each others’ interests, and having fun.
Regardless of experience with AI, we encourage all interested students, faculty, and community members to learn more about joining the MLab.
